New winter opening hours and programme at Spurn Discovery Centre

From Sunday 3rd November, the Spurn Discovery Centre and café will move to winter opening hours.

Just as our natural world slows down for the winter, so do visitor numbers to Spurn Point national nature reserve and our Discovery Centre.

Spurn Point is wild and beautiful and is one of the most remote and exposed corners of Yorkshire. For those who layer up and make the journey, they are rewarded with big skies, incredible wildlife and long, bracing walks, but overall, fewer people decide to visit us at this dark and colder time of year.

As a charity, we need to carefully manage our increasing running costs during these quietest of times and ensure a warm welcome awaits on the days when most visitors are venturing out for a winter escape.

From Sunday 3rd November, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Discovery Centre and café will therefore move to winter opening hours

  • Monday 10:00 - 3:00
  • Tuesday closed
  • Wednesday closed
  • Thursday 10:00 -3:00
  • Friday 10:00 - 3:00
  • Saturday 10:00 - 3:00
  • Sunday 10:00 - 3:00

The nature reserve, car park and toilets on the ground floor of the Discovery Centre will remain open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (from 10am until 4pm).

What's on offer this winter?

A warm welcome awaits you at the Discovery Centre during our opening hours. We have a wild winter programme for people joining us on a Spurn safari, including a festive themed safaris on selected dates in December.

We’re also reviewing what we offer on our menu, including a proper Yorkshire cooked breakfast, hot and cold sandwiches and snacks to take with you on a walk.

If you are joining us for a Spurn safari, our café will still be open for a little while longer when you return at 2.30.

We will also be introducing a Spurn Shuttle, which will provide one way transport to the point, for people who would like a three – not six - mile walk. Stay tuned to our reserve page for more information.

Business as usual

Our work caring for the reserve hasn’t changed; our colleagues and volunteers will be based at our office in The Blue Bell and will still be carrying out winter tasks and caring for our cattle on the reserve.

Christmas opening times

Spurn is a popular place to visit and walk off the festive indulgences with families and friends between Christmas and New Year. We will therefore open a full week from Thursday 26th December and return to winter opening hours from Sunday 5th January.

To give our team their Christmas break, we’ll be closing the centre completely, including toilets, for a full seven days from 17th to the 25th December,
