A surprise was instore for one unassuming visitor to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas Centre on 08 November as they stepped through the centre’s doors.

Hugh Hendry became the 20,000th customer this year for the marine centre which is nestled on the approach to Flamborough’s stunning South Landing beach.

Opened in 2013, the Living Seas Centre (LSC) is Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's first education facility dedicated to showcasing the rich undersea habitats of the North Sea around Flamborough Head. It’s proved a hit with day trippers such as Hugh who dropped in to catch up on the latest wildlife sightings and first-time visitors keen to understand more about life beneath the waves off the North Sea coast.

In addition to 20,000 day visitors, close to 2500 school children have taken part in education sessions since January, along with around 1500 people attending the centre’s special events and organised activities which take place throughout the year.

Hugh said: “I try to visit Flamborough three or four times a year to walk the headland and have enjoyed visiting the LSC since it opened. It’s a great facility and always a fabulous area to explore.”
