Boathouse Burger and Grill has recently celebrated its 1st birthday. It’s certainly a strange time to open a new business as some noted, but this demanding year has allowed me to adapt quickly, embrace change and respond to the environmental challenges we are confronted with.
After a busy start, we had very little time to plan and had to quickly tackle the increasing ethical pressures all small businesses face. My main aim was to become ethically minded, create impact and take positive steps in helping our local area and wildlife. Little did I expect, was the huge challenges we would face in litter pollution, the logistics of waste disposal, product shortages and having to fight the losing battle with the rising cost of eco-friendly packaging. However, with all this in mind, we have a lot of celebrate and I now have the chance to reflect on the steps we have taken during our first year, and how we are now a driving force for change.The importance of protecting our beaches and wildlife has been instilled in me from a young age.
