North Cave Wetlands - for people and wildlife

A wonderful wetland, transformed from a working quarry over the last 20 years, into a thriving nature reserve, now brimming with wildlife.

Working with Breedon Group plc., we are gradually transforming sections of quarried land - creating an expansive and shining example of 21st century wetland, for wildlife and people.

Eventually North Cave Wetlands will be one of the biggest wetlands in East Yorkshire, and of national importance for breeding birds such as black headed gulls, sand martins and avocets.

Striking a balance

North Cave Wetlands already attracts 35,000 visitors a year, but as an ever expanding and significant site for wildlife, we expect to see these numbers steadily increase.

We need to ensure that we are striking a balance, so that nature can thrive, and our visitors are inspired.

Will you support our appeal to help keep the wetlands special for the wildlife that call this place home?

Everyone deserves the opportunity to discover the wonders of wildlife

We have plans to expand and improve the popular visitor seating area, so more people can enjoy the views across the lake.

We also want to create a new and fully accessible viewing screen, where people can watch, listen, and experience the wildlife on site, while keeping disturbance to a minimum.

By January 2024, we need to raise £30,000 so that we can:

  • Refresh all signage and information across the reserve.

  • Create a new welcome hub, with a shelter and large site map.

  • Add way marker signage, including colour coded walking trails.

  • Improve accessibility, ensuring our new hide and viewing screen can be enjoyed by everyone.
  • .
  • Extend and improve the lakeside seating area.
